We have an incredible makerspace to design and learn new skills! In this fun and fast-paced environment we have access to amazing machinery, multiple 3D-printers, a full game field, and a computer lab. Our space provides a connective environment where we are able to interact with many FLL and FTC teams.

Fusion builds a robot each year to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge. The creation process of our robots involves design, building, programming, and reiteration. This gives Fusion members amazing opportunities to learn CAD, Java programming, and power tools like our CNC router. In addition, Fusion focuses on building life-long skills in teamwork, collaboration, and public speaking.

Out of the many things I have learned during my time on this team my favorite is public speaking. I’ve had many opportunities to become a better public speaker. I have also learned how to handle failure. It is so important to know how to recover after something doesn’t work the way you want it to and my time in robotics has helped me learn how to overcome these obstacles.

I joined Fusion to continue learning about robotics and all of its components including, using power tools, CAD software, and a lot of team work skills. My favorite thing about robotics is the environment at competitions. Getting to meet new people from all different places who share a common interest is a super fun experience and a great way to make new friends.

What do we do?
Fusion 4133 competes in FIRST® Tech Challenge Robotics. We strive to participate with the spirit of FIRST® ; we want everyone to learn the value of teamwork and Gracious Professionalism in addition to being involved, sharing ideas, and contributing to the team. The team believes strongly in the engineering process and that planning and teamwork are the two most important aspects of this process.
What are practice times?
We will typically host sub-team specific meetings throughout the week that vary with everyone’s schedules. Fusion consistently meets as an entire team on Sunday afternoons.
What are the different roles on this team?
Our main sub-teams are build, programming, and documentation. In these sub categories are the builders, designers, programmers, marketing, web design, and social media roles.
How many people are on your team?
Every year varies with how many members have graduated, but typically, we aim for 7 to 10 members.
Who can join?
Any 7th -12th grade student in the Helena area!
How long is the season?
Our season begins in September when the game is released and can continue through April depending on our qualifications. Our team also enjoys activities during the summer and outside of the season including outreach events and team building activities.
Where do we practice?
We work in the basement of the Helena Regional Airport. They have generously donated this space for us to hold practices and it is an amazing place for all of our teams to learn about and build robots!
How are we involved in the community?
We strive to give back to our community as much as possible! Without the generous support of many community individuals and organizations, we would not have gotten to where we are today. We volunteer at many events throughout the year, do displays and presentations for businesses, and present at schools.
